Events Experience

The productions put on at the James Earl Jones Theatre over the years have played a big part in its success. Since 1912, the venue has put great emphasis on providing a wonderful experience during every show.

Shortly after the Cort Theatre opened, Theatre magazine noted its “comfortable seats” while singing the praises of its “admirable acoustic properties.” Other critics commended Thomas W. Lamb for creating an auditorium that was spacious enough for visitors to spread out while still providing performances with an intimacy that isn’t always found in some large, cavernous theaters.

Even though these positive reviews were written 100 years ago, they still ring true today. The huge, curved sounding board that sits above the auditorium’s proscenium arch is divided into several sections to enhance the theater’s interior appearance while improving acoustics.

The proscenium arch, meanwhile, is covered with latticed plasterwork to give it a neoclassical look and feel. Art glass sits just beneath its surface and can illuminate the theater to manufacture moods during performances.

The theater features an eclectic blend of old and new elements, enabling it to deliver a truly unique experience from the second you step foot inside.
